Abstract
A two-stage solution procedure is presented for the lateral load analy sis of framed tubes. In the first stage dual shape functions and Gauss elimination solution are used to obtain an approximate solution. In t he second stage a Gauss-Seidel iterative solution is used to obtain an accurate solution. The proposed-two-stage solution procedure only req uires a small fraction of the CPU time needed in the standard Gauss el imination solution. Computer storage locations required are also small er than those in the standard solution. With the use of the two-stage solution procedure analysis of framed tubes of practical sizes can be carried out on PCs.
