Abstract
The overall defects in LaMnO3+delta have been studied by powder neutro n diffraction, electron diffraction, and high resolution transmission electron microscopy on a sample with the formal composition LaMnO3.158 . Neutron diffraction, in combination with chemical analysis, indicate s that the actual composition is La0.95Mn0.95O3. The electron microsco py results indicate that no defect clustering or crystallographic shea r occurs. It is concluded that the defect chemistry of LaMnO3+delta mu st be described with randomly distributed La and Mn vacancies in equal amounts. (C) 1994 Academic Press, Inc.
