Abstract
We have successfully intercalated iodine between the Bi-O layers of th e semiconducting Bi2Sr2Y0.5Ca0.5Cu2O8+delta. X-ray diffraction and the rmogravimetric analysis confirmed the formation of a stage-1 intercala ted compound, IBi2Sr2Y0.5Ca0.5Cu2O8+delta. Upon intercalation, the com pound became superconducting, indicating there is a modest transfer of holes from iodine located in Bi-O layers to Cu-O sheets. (C) 1994 Aca demic Press, Inc.
