We. Rudzinski et al., DETERMINATION OF HEXAMETHYLENE DIISOCYANATE IN SPRAY-PAINTING OPERATIONS USING CAPILLARY ZONE ELECTROPHORESIS, Analytical chemistry, 66(10), 1994, pp. 1664-1666
Capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE) was used for the analysis of hexa
methylene diisocyanate (HDI) vapor during spray-painting operations. T
he use of CZE when compared with high-performance liquid chromatograph
y (HPLC) offers improved resolution of coeluting peaks, comparable lim
its of detection and speed of analysis, low solvent consumption, and t
he ability to sample as little as 3 mu L of sample. The modified OSHA
method 42, which uses capillary zone electrophoresis for the analytica
l determination of HDI, was validated in a direct comparison with the
original OSHA method 42. Field samples were obtained during several sp
ray-painting operations. The results obtained using CZE were comparabl
e (r = 0.998) to those obtained using HPLC.
