Abstract
In comparison with nitrogen and nitrous oxide, oxygen-saturated medium greatly enhanced injury and peroxidase activity in eight-day-old seed lings raised from barley seeds exposed to Co-60-gamma-rays. The radiat ion damage in O2-saturated medium not only increased peroxidase activi ty, but also induced two additional peroxidase bands, not present in a ny other situation, as detected by non-denaturing polyacrylamide gel e lectrophoresis (PAGE). These observations are briefly discussed in the light of available reports in the literature.
