A technique is developed by means of which from a vacuum solution in t
he most general scalar-tensor theories of gravitation a solution in ge
neral relativity with an imperfect fluid as the matter content is obta
ined. The fluid in the generated solution is Newtonian and irrotationa
l. Two examples of the Bianchi type-I universe and one of the Kantowsk
i-Sachs model are given. In the first two examples the well-known solu
tions of Belinskii and Khalatnikov are recovered.
