The stability of optochemical nitrate sensors based on immobilized pH
indicators in hydrophobic membranes was investigated. The chemical str
ucture of the pH indicator (i.e., chromoionophore) was found to affect
the stability as well as the pH-operation range of the sensor. Differ
ent matrices were tested for the immobilization of the sensing compoun
ds, and the influence of continuous sensor operation on its properties
was proofed.
