Abstract
Pentoxifylline pretreatment protects rat gastric mucosa against indome thacin-induced damage. Lipid peroxidation after indomethacin treatment (determined as thiobarbituric acid reactants) was significantly reduc ed by a single dose of pentoxifylline. The same was true for pentoxify lline administration for 6 days. There is a relationship between reduc ed lipid peroxidation, decreased number of circulating activated neutr ophils and diminished disposition for acute gastric mucosal lesions in duced by indomethacin in pentoxifylline-pretreated rats.
