Abstract
This paper describes a methodology to examine reservoir size of pumped storage. in studying required characteristics of pumped storage such as required reservoir size, careful analysis is indispensable on its f uture operation. This paper presents a monte carlo simulation method t hat incorporates uncertainty in demands and supply capability and deal s with both weekly and daily operations of pumped storage. The method examines required reservoir size from the viewpoint of power system re liability. A sample study discusses the sensitivity of required reserv oir size on load profiles and generation mix.
