Abstract
Imposing structure on the Smith form of an (integer) periodicity matri x N = U LAMBDA V leads to efficient multidimensional (m-D) DFT impleme ntations [1]. For nonsingular integer and rational matrices, we introd uce algorithms to generate U (or V) matrices with minimum norm and A m atrices whose diagonal elements exhibit minimum variance. Such structu re simplifies nonuniform m-D filter-bank design [2].
