S. Cohen et al., A METHOD FOR EVALUATING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF EDUCATIONAL SOFTWARE, Behavior research methods, instruments, & computers, 26(2), 1994, pp. 236-241
A method for executing a detailed evaluation of educational software i
s described. Several issues are discussed, including the use of an exp
erimental setting versus a field study, and the design of assessment i
nstruments suited to evaluation of educational software. The instrumen
ts include a test of remedial skills, a 103-item test of conceptual un
derstanding, and a system for recording students' use of the software.
The method was used to evaluate ConStatS, a program for teaching conc
eptual understanding of probability and statistics. Preliminary result
s of the evaluation are presented.
