Any needle passing through a rubber stopper can aspirate a core of rub
ber. This rubber may then be injected into the eye or into the retrobu
lbar or peribulbar space. Aspirates from a number of syringes were spu
n down in a centrifuge and examined for microscopic particles. All spe
cimens contained microscopic particles even from half-used bottles of
Xylocaine(TM).
