R. Nishida et al., CYANOGLUCOSIDE, SARMENTOSIN, FROM THE MAGPIE MOTH, ABRAXAS-GROSSULARIATA, GEOMETRIDAE, LEPIDOPTERA, Phytochemistry, 36(1), 1994, pp. 37-38
A bitter tasting cyanoglucoside, sarmentosin, was isolated from the Ma
gpie moth. The high concentration in the image (650 mu g insect(-1)) s
uggests a defensive role for this substance. The concentration of caro
tenoids was also found to be exceptionally high.
