Abstract
alpha-Necrodyl acetate and alpha-necrodol are reported for the first t ime in the plant kingdom as constituents of the essential oils of Lava ndula luisieri. Their identification was mainly achieved on the basis of their NMR spectra. Thirty-six other components were identified, the most characteristic of them being 1,8-cineole, lavandulol and lavandu lyl acetate. alpha-Necrodol has been previously reported in the defens ive secretion of the rectal gland of Necrodes surinamensis, a silphid beetle from Surinam.
