DOUBLE SCAN PLAYBACK - A NOVEL TECHNIQUE FOR INCREASING THE ERROR-HANDLING CAPABILITY IN DIGITAL VTRS

This article outlines the rationale that led the design team of a seco nd-generation D-1 DVTR to search for a novel method of reducing playba ck error rates. The major sources of error rate production in a DVTR a re identified and a strategy for the minimization of error rates is di scussed. A method of reducing playback-produced random error rates is described, and the improvement that can be expected from the technique is quantified theoretically and discussed practically.
