(5,6)-Fullerene-C70 exhibits anomalous solvatochromism in room-tempera
ture solvent mixtures. The solvatochromism depends not only on solutio
n concentration and mixture composition but also on the way in which t
he mixtures are prepared. Rapid pouring or dropwise addition of aceton
itrile to a C70 toluene solution results in two distinctively differen
t solution colors. The interesting behavior is attributed to the forma
tion of microscopic aggregates.
