Abstract
Baeodasymyia dominicana, a new fossil species of biting midge from Dom inican amber is described and illustrated. This is the first fossil sp ecies of Baeodasymyia, a Neotropical genus with one described extant s pecies known from Colombia and Haiti. Baeodasymyia and Baeohelea are r egarded as sister groups and evidence is presented for the monophyly o f each genus. Baeohelea nana is recorded for the first time from the i sland of St. Kitts.
