Bb. Norden et al., NESTS AND ENEMIES OF EXOMALOPSIS (PHANAMALOPSIS) SOLANI COCKERELL (HYMENOPTERA, APOIDEA, MUTILLIDAE, DIPTERA, ASILIDAE), Proceedings of the Entomological Society of Washington, 96(2), 1994, pp. 350-356
The bee, Exomalopsis (Phanomalopsis) solani Cockerell was studied in A
pache, Arizona, 1988 and in Rodeo, New Mexico, 1991. Bees nested commu
nally in hard packed, horizontal ground surrounded by low xeric vegeta
tion. Nest structure, provisions, and larvae are discussed. Evidence o
f cooperative nesting without differentiation into castes is examined.
Cleptoparasites of immatures, Pseudomethoca bethae Krombein (Mutillid
ae) and Nomada gutierreziae Cockerell (Apoidea), and a predator of adu
lt bees, Mallophorina pulchra Pritchard (Asilidae), are identified.
