Abstract
This paper depicts the perspectives of preservice U.S. teachers toward s diverse learners and shows how these create barriers to equitable an d just schooling for many children. It reviews national reports callin g for changes in teacher education with regard to their attention to t he teaching of ''Other people's'' children and reviews teacher educati on program efforts at reform for diversity; finally, it provides analy ses of these efforts that point the way for further struggles for chan ge.2
