Abstract
In this study several methods were tested to fix and preserve Daphnia magna individuals for later analysis of carbon content. None of the me thods used prevented carbon loss. Depending on the method, carbon loss varied between 15 and 30 % as compared to freshly analysed animals. T herefore, we recommend the analysis of living animals.
