A. Marcomini et al., PREPARATION, CHARACTERIZATION AND RP-HPLC DETERMINATION OF SULFOPHENYL AND NONYLPHENOXY CARBOXYLATES, Annali di chimica, 83(11-12), 1993, pp. 461-484
Sulphophenylmono- (SPC) and dialkanoic acids (SP2C), and nonylphenoxy
acetic (NP1EC) and ethoxy acetic (NP2EC) acids were synthesized, chara
cterized, and then determined by reversed-phase HPLC (RP-HPLC) togethe
r with their parent compounds, the surfactants linear alkylbenzene sul
phonates (LAS) and nonylphenol polyethoxylates (NPEO), respectively. T
he separation procedures were applied to the analysis of raw sewage (i
nfluent) and treated sewage (secondary effluent) as well as of sewage
sludges. Both SPC and NPEC appeared to be key intermediates for the bi
odegradation of LAS and NPEO.
