G. Pietu et al., TREATMENT OF DELAYED AND NONUNIONS OF THE HUMERAL SHAFT USING THE SEIDEL LOCKING NAIL - A PRELIMINARY-REPORT OF 5 CASES, Journal of orthopaedic trauma, 8(3), 1994, pp. 240-244
We report the treatment of five cases of delayed/or nonunions of the h
umerus using the Seidel locking nail. Union occurred in all cases desp
ite two distal unscrewings. Shoulder motion was pain free, with slight
ly restricted abduction. No subacromial impingement occurred. Elbow mo
tion was slightly limited in extension in two elderly patients, most l
ikely because of previous immobilization. This method of treatment the
refore seems to be of value because it avoids iatrogenic risk to the r
adial nerve and the possible need for bone grafting.
