T. Carrel et al., AORTIC HOMOGRAFT AND MITRAL-VALVE REPAIR IN A PATIENT WITH WERNERS-SYNDROME, The Annals of thoracic surgery, 57(5), 1994, pp. 1319-1320
We report the case of a 66-year-old man suffering from Werner's syndro
me (adult progeria); he presented with several cardiac disorders, incl
uding coronary artery disease, aortic stenosis, and mitral regurgitati
on, mainly due to calcific deposits in the mitral annulus and the aort
ic cusps. Treatment consisted of mitral repair, homograft replacement
of the aortic valve, and coronary artery bypass grafting. Avoidance of
prosthetic material because of chronic infectious skin ulcers constit
uted the main goal of the operation.
