Th. Poister et Gt. Henry, CITIZEN RATINGS OF PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SERVICE QUALITY - A COMPARATIVEPERSPECTIVE, PAR. Public administration review, 54(2), 1994, pp. 155-160
How does the public's assessment of the quality of specific public ser
vices compare with its evaluation of private sector services? Using th
e results of a 1992 survey conducted in Georgia, Theodore H. Poister a
nd Gary T. Henry found no systematic difference in attitudes toward pu
blic and private services among respondents. The conventional wisdom t
hat public services are inherently inferior to those offered by the pr
ivate sector does not necessarily pervade attitudes toward government.
