H. Shimizu et J. Kawaguchi, THE ACCURACY OF FEELING-OF-KNOWING JUDGMENTS FOR GENERAL-INFORMATION QUESTIONS USING THE RECALL RETEST METHOD, Japanese psychological research, 35(4), 1993, pp. 215-220
The present research examined the accuracy of the feeling-of-knowing j
udgments by using the recall retest method. Sixty-five undergraduate a
nd graduate students were asked to answer 216 general-information ques
tions, and also asked to judge the degree of their feeling of knowing
on a 7-point scale for unrecalled answers. The subjects were re-tested
without advance notice 36 weeks later. The results showed that the fe
eling-of-knowing judgment is a fairly reliable predictor for the succe
ss in the second test. The consistency with the previous studies using
recognition as a criterion test is discussed in terms of guessing lik
elihood in answering questions.
