Abstract
Doppler-free saturation spectroscopy in an optically thick atomic vapo r is used in an optical-feedback stabilization system for a semiconduc tor diode laser. A portion of the 780 nm diode laser beam passes throu gh a heated rubidium cell and is reflected back to the laser. The opti cal feedback causes the laser frequency to be stabilized to a hyperfin e transition within the Rb D2 line. The linewidth of the laser is redu ced by more than two orders of magnitude.
