A neutral metal complex, [Pt(dddt)2]degrees (1), has been obtained by
oxidation of the [Pt(dddt)2]- anion with excess (BU4N)AuBr4 in nitrobe
nzene. Crystallographic data for 1: a = 17.854(9) angstrom, b = 18.409
(9) angstrom, c = 4.717(5) angstrom, gamma = 68.83(2)degrees, space gr
oup P2(1)/n, Z = 4, d(calc) = 2.55 g/cm3. In 1 two independent centros
ymmetric [Pt(dddt)2]0 molecules are packed in stacks that form layers
parallel to the (110) plane. The molecules of 1 in the layers have sho
rtened S...S contacts 3.491(9) angstrom, and 3.594(10) angstrom. The a
verage bond lengths Pt-S 2.242(7) angstrom, S-C 1.71(2) angstrom and C
=C 1.40(3) angstrom, together with the square-planar coordination of P
t in PtS4, suggest considerable conjugation in the metal cycles.
