Abstract
The equations are derived describing the laser mode locking by externa l acoustooptical modulation using the traveling and standing sound wav es. Steady-state solutions of the equations are found. Expressions for the duration and other parameters of Gaussian pulses are obtained. Th e difference in the behavior of laser pulses under conditions of exter nal modulation by standing and traveling waves is discussed.
