A study is reported of the feasibility of using an aspherical mirror,
with its surface in the shape of a prolate ellipsoid of revolution, in
the scanning system of a high-speed photographic camera. An analysis
is reported of the optimisation of the parameters of the optical syste
m of the camera starting from the aberration minimisation conditions.
An aspherical mirror of this kind performs not only the scanning funct
ion, but acts as a collector, thus simplifying greatly the constructio
n of the camera.
