Rc. Howard et al., FACTOR-ANALYSIS APPLIED TO THE RESULTS OF A LABORATORY BEATING INVESTIGATION, Journal of pulp and paper science, 20(5), 1994, pp. 100000137-100000141
Factor analysis has been used to identify the main causes of variation
in 9 sheet and stock properties measured during the beating of 9 pulp
s in 6 different types of laboratory beaters. The data were obtained f
rom the literature. Three independent underlying factors were found to
be responsible for the majority of the variation: a factor of bonding
, a factor of fibre length and fines, and a factor of microcompression
. Evidence that different pulps could be characterized by factor analy
sis was also obtained.
