Abstract
From 37 possible methods for measuring (not diagnosing) locomotor diso rders in individuals and groups of pregnant sows, 19 were selected for an on-farm evaluation which resulted in ''angularity by photography'' , ''relative weight-bearine'', ''frequency of leg movements'', ''durat ion of standing after the morning meal'' and ''rate of lying down afte r the morning meal'' being finally selected for further testing. The s election criteria, methods and results are described.
