F. Ascher et al., AN EVALUATION OF THE EFFECTIVENESS OF DIM ETHICONE IN FUNCTIONAL DISEASES OF THE GASTROINTESTINAL-TRACT IN DOGS, Recueil de medecine veterinaire, 170(1), 1994, pp. 45-50
Seventy one dogs with an history of inflammatory gastro-intestinal tra
ct disease and/or of flatulence related signs, were included in a cont
rolled study comparing the effectiveness of dimethicone and aluminium
phosphate in the relief of their symptoms. Dimethicone was as effectiv
e as aluminium phosphate in relieving the symptoms related to the infl
ammatory diseases (gastritis, oesophagitis, gastro-enteritis). Dimethi
cone was significantly more effective in relieving those clinical sign
s directly related to gaseous accumulations (gas expelling, distension
, borborygmus). The development for veterinary use of a suitable dosag
e form of dimethicone provided a usefull and safe means for helping or
al administration of dogs of different sizes.
