Abstract
In this study, the pollution of Thermaikos gulf by PAH originated from the catchment area and the effluents of a Wastes Treatment Plant of a 1,000,000 people city, was investigated. Samples were collected from the drainage ditches, the effluent pipe, the sea water, the sediments and the mussels of the gulf. The concentrations of PAH were determined by gas chromatography technics. The results showed the influence of t he catchment area on the pollution of Thermaikos gulf by PAH, as well the low PAH contamination of mussels tissue.
