Abstract
Implantation of a transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic stent shunt (TIPSS) is guided by ultrasound and fluoroscopy. Today this stent is c linically established as a concept of ,,minimal invasive therapy'' to treat recurrent variceal bleeding in patients with portal hypertension . We describe its technical steps in detail, giving the materials used . ,,Intraoperative'' and ,,postoperative'' monitoring and the typical features of an ideal shunt are described.
