Poor digestion, which generates chronic diarrhoea, can be associated w
ith functional problems (motility or intestinal permeability), with di
gestive deficiencies (pancreatic, hepatic or intestinal) and with diet
ary intolerance, but also with a badly controlled feeding system. This
is notably the case with sudden changes in diet, overfeeding or defec
tive nutrient quality (fibre, starch, lactose and proteins). Palliativ
e dietetics requires the respect of strict hygienic rules based on the
use of a very digestible feed and small meals.
