Abstract
Instantaneous frequency doubling is demonstrated in germania doped sil ica planar waveguides deposited on fused silica substrates by quasi-ph asematching with an externally applied, periodic DC field. The DC fiel d periodicity which causes frequency doubling corresponds to the beat length between the fundamental and second harmonic light propagating i n the waveguide.
