Methylmercury(II) and phenylmercury(II) dithiophosphinates [HgR(S2PR2'
)] (R = Me or Ph; R' = Et or Cy) were synthesized. In [HgPh(S2PEt2)] t
he mercury atom is coordinated to a phenyl carbon atom and to one S at
om of the dithiophosphinate (Hg-C, 2.07(2) angstrom, Hg-S, 2.375(3) an
gstrom). The other sulphur atom of the dithiophosphinate forms two wea
k Hg...S interactions, one intramolecular and other intermolecular (Hg
-S, 3.182(3) angstrom and 3.183(3) angstrom respectively). The mass, I
R, Raman and H-1, C-13, P-31 and Hg-199 nuclear magnetic resonance spe
ctra of the compounds are discussed.
