The dimers {(tBuC5H4)2Ln(mu-Me)}2 (Ln=Y, or Lu) react with organic dic
halcogenides R2E2 (E=S or Se; R=Ph, (n)Bu, (t)Bu or CH2Ph) to form {((
t)BuC5H4)2Ln(mu-ER)}2 complexes with Ln-S or Ln-Se bonds. The molecula
r structure of {(tBuC5H4)2Ln(mu-SePh)}2 . C6H6 has been determined by
X-ray diffraction (PBAR; a = 11.242(2) angstrom, b = 11.388(2) angstro
m and c = 12.865(2) angstrom; alpha = 110.32(2)degrees; beta = 105.16(
2)degrees; and gamma = 102.84(2)degrees; Z = 1; d(calc.) = 1.343 g cm-
3; R = 0.0509 and R(omega) = 0.0532). The two yttrium atoms of the cen
trosymmetric dimeric molecule are bridged by two mu-SePh groups.
