J. Majling et al., POROSIMETER AS A MEANS TO MEASURE THE COMPACTIBILITY OF POWDERS, Journal of the American Ceramic Society, 77(5), 1994, pp. 1369-1371
Samples of silica fume powder prepressed in the form of slabs under re
latively small pressures and cut in spheres were coated with a thin fl
exible latex film by dipping them into the water emulsion of the natur
al latex, and their densification behavior was studied using the commo
n mercury, intrusion porosimeter. The samples were compacted at isosta
tic pressure conditions by increasing the mercury pressure, and the vo
lume changes as a function of pressure were recorded. The recorded pre
ssure/volume changes provided information about the compaction course
of the original green powder compacts in a continuous fashion.
