We have calculated the energy distribution of electrons produced by io
nization of bulk electrons in grazing H+ surface collisions. In this f
irst approach we assume a direct ion-surface Coulomb interaction, desc
ribe the solid within the jellium approximation, and consider nonparal
lel ion trajectories near the surface. In agreement with experimental
results, the energy distributions present a maximum around 3 eV, stron
gly dependent on the observation angle and projectile energy.
