Abstract
An optical emission phenomenon was observed for pyrolitic boron nitrid e (PBN) which was excited via bombardments by 1.0 MeV H+ and 1.8 MeV H e+ ions. From blue to near-ultraviolet photons were observed with a co ntinuum spectra from 280 to 600 nm having two broad peaks at 350 and 4 30 nm. It is suggested that the two broad peaks correspond to luminesc ence through two different deep recombination centers at 3.6 eV below the conduction band and at 3.0 eV above the valence band. No band-to-b and luminescent recombination was observed near 250 nm (approximately 5 eV).
