Abstract
An asymptotic form for the partial derivative of the phase shift with respect to angular momentum l has been derived for a potential with a spherical well interior and a Coulomb exterior. kR in current heavy io n experiments is typically 35 or more. This makes the exact analytical expressions for the partial derivatives of the phase shifts with resp ect to momentum, angular momentum and charge etc. more analytically an d numerically tractable, and strongly motivates our study. Such an app roximation, to the best of our knowledge, has not been published and c ould be of practical value.
