Abstract
Heart rate reactivity to a 2-min mental arithmetic stressor was invest igated with a sample of 224 subjects drawn from both sexes and ranging in age from 17 to 63. Effects of gender and age were examined, with d ata indicating some significant gender and age interactions. Additiona lly, discrepancies between USA and European data compared to those gat hered here suggest that local norms need to be developed for reliable comparison of Australian individuals' heart rate reactivity. Implicati ons for classification of clients and subjects by reference to these d ata are discussed.
