The transfer of negative pions captured by hydrogen to deuterium has b
een studied in H2O + D2O mixtures. The D2O-concentration dependence of
the transfer rate was analyzed on the basis of a phenomenological mod
el in order to determine the transfer parameters. The fit gives an asy
mptotic transfer of about 42%, which is smaller than the previous resu
lts, but slightly larger than the value for H-2 + D2 gas mixtures. A m
esomolecular effect of HOD molecules was discussed on the basis of the
concentration dependence of the transfer rate.
