Abstract
]naphtho[1'2':4,5]thieno[2,3-c][1,6]naphthyridine, a novel polycyclic heterocyclic ring system, has been synthesized as the 14-methyl deriva tive 8 in four steps from known intermediates. The structure of 8 is s upported by assignment of the proton and the protonated carbon atoms b y 2D-nmr techniques (COSY and a carbon-hydrogen one-bond coupling expe riment).
