Abstract
The surface mass sensitivity of a chemical sensor device based on the velocity change of Love waves and Rayleigh waves is calculated for a t hree-layer sensor structure consisting of an intermediate gold spacer and a split sensitive organic layer. The mass sensitivity is optimized by variation of the gold spacer thickness. It is found that the Love mode in 120-degrees-rotated Y-quartz is more sensitive than the Raylei gh mode in YZ-LiNbO3 for an organic layer thickness greater than 2.5% of the wavelength.
