Abstract
We observed Au(111) 22 x square-root 3-like reconstruction by atomic f orce microscopy with lateral force detection in air. On flat terraces of the gold surface evaporated on mica there appeared the reconstructe d patterns as well as atomic lattice image. The lateral force varied a cross the reconstructed pattern and, in addition, an indication of inc reasing lateral force at the ''elbow'' sites of the reconstruction was obtained.
