Abstract
A 19-year-old man died of a disseminated herpesvirus infection. Micros copic examination of a peritoneal fluid specimen revealed cellular cha nges characteristic of a herpetic process, and an autopsy confirmed wi despread herpes simplex virus type II infection. Viral infections may be diagnosed by cytologic examination of body fluid specimens.
