AN ALPHA-FETOPROTEIN-PRODUCING PANCREATIC CYSTADENOCARCINOMA

An autopsy case of an 83-year-old Japanese woman with pancreatic cance r with significantly elevated serum alpha-fetoprotein levels is report ed. The pancreatic tumor was a mucinous cystadenocarcinoma with multip le metastasis to the liver. The immunohistochemistry for alpha-fetopro tein revealed positive reactivity in the cytoplasm of cancer cells in the primary and liver metastatic lesions. The current case is the firs t reported in which mucinous cystadenocarcinoma of the pancreas produc ed alpha-fetoprotein.
