English-Japanese Machine Translation System ''DUET E/J'' has been high
ly rated, since its release in 1987, for its high translation performa
nce and its full-fledged translation support functions. The authors ha
ve improved its software three times since the release of the first ve
rsion V1.3, and have developed an English-Japanese Machine Translation
System'' Duet Qt V2.1'' which has made a full-scale improvement in th
e framework to realize a significant improvement in translation perfor
mance and to realize a further user-friendliness in translation suppor
t functions. The system has been popular in the marketplace since the
release in january of 1994, because it carries a system dictionary of
about 89,000 entries, a bottom-up breadth-first parser, a framework of
preferential interpretations based on priorities and heuristic knowle
dge, and a variety of translation support functions such as pre- and p
ost-editing facilities and translation learning functions.
